General Information

*Fifth’s Disease at PS/IS276

A few students in our school have been diagnosed with fifth disease, an infection caused by Parvovirus B19.

This virus is spread from person to person by contact with infected respiratory secretions  (droplets from the nose and throat). In most children, fifth disease is very mild. Children may develop red ("slapped") cheeks and a lacy rash which begins on the trunk and moves outward to the arms, buttocks, and thighs, which may come and go for several weeks. Many children have no symptoms.

Children are most contagious with Parvovirus B19 before they develop the distinctive rash of fifth disease. At that time, they may have fever, muscle aches, and headache. Once the rash develops, however, they are no longer contagious, and may return to school as long as they feel well.  Click here for more info.

*Late arrivals to school

Please come into the office with your child if they are late to school and sign them in. Lower School students must be accompanied by a parent if they are arriving late. If your child is in middle school and your are not accompanying them to school, please call William or Lorraine at 212-266-5800 to let them know you are aware your child is arriving late.

*Free Tutoring at the BPC Library

"Members of the specialized high school Stuyvesant High School's branch of the National Honor Society, ARISTA, are offering a free tutoring and homework help program at The Battery Park City Library (175 North End Aveon Thursday, May 28Monday, June 1, and Thursday, June 11 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM. This is a great opportunity for your child to stay motivated during the last weeks of school and receive preparation from advanced students for the upcoming regents, common core tests, science state tests, and other end of year examinations. The library is also a great environment for you child to work independently or with their classmates on projects and other assignments and receive one-on-one help from tutors as they need it. We urge you to inform your child of this opportunity.

In the interim, the NYCDOE will provide parents with alternate ways of retrieving their students’ information. More information about the new system, and alternate methods to retrieve students’ information will be shared as soon as it's available.

If your child is traveling or out of school for more than 3 days please advise William Wilson in the main office or email your child’s itinerary to and advise your child’s teacher. This will not “excuse” your child’s absence but it will be marked as an “explained” absence. Please bring in a note if your child has seen a doctor or dentist as well.

You must bring your PHOTO ID if you are entering the school building.  The security guards are there to protect your child(ren) and keep the school safe.
